Things to do in Bowral and Berrima with Kids + Where to Stay

The Southern Highlands is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible locations for a fun family trip away. Bowral is about 1.5 hours from Sydney and Berrima is only 10 minutes from Bowral. Here are Ann Paterson Real Estate's top recommendations for what to see and do and where to stay.

Bradman Museum & International Cricket Hall of Fame

A must-see for cricket fans! Known as 'The Boy from Bowral', the great Sir Don is our most famous former resident. Next to the museum is Glebe Park, which has a fully fenced cricket-inspired playground. There's a large Mary Poppins statue which states that the author, P.L Travers, also lived in Bowral for a period of time. There is a beautiful little garden near the Donald Bradman statue; and a cafe.

Corbett Gardens

Corbett Gardens is incredibly beautiful with its gorgeous array of tulips and tranquil walkways. The Tulip Festival runs for two weeks in mid to late September and incurs an entry fee; otherwise the gardens are always open and free of charge.

Lunch at Briars Lodge

This pub is in a beautiful historic building that started out as a coaching inn. It now has a gorgeous restaurant and bar area plus accommodation, too. There are lots of delicious options on the menu. The locals' favourites include the beer battered fish and chips, the crunchy noodle salad and the bangers and mash. Briars has a small fenced playground with swings to keep the young ones entertained.

Bushwalks around Bowral

The two-hour walking trail from Gibraltar Hotel to the 90 Acre Hill Lookout is amazing. Keep an eye out for beautiful bush flowers, echidnas and wombats. The Mt Gibraltar Reserve also has several trails and lookouts to explore. The Bowral and Mittagong lookouts offer magnificent views of the valley below.

Berrima’s Lolly Swagman

You can't go to Berrima without a stop at The Lolly Swagman, which offers lots of traditional and modern treats to delight the kids.

Berrima’s Courthouse

Berrima River Walk

This beautiful walk is about one hour return. It has signs and photos outlining the history of the German internment camps that were situated along the river. It is very tranquil and a relaxing way to enjoy an afternoon.
